Kissimmee Gateway Airport Begins the New Year with Record Fuel Sales and ILS Procedure
Kissimmee, FL – January 16, 2007 – Kissimmee Gateway Airport, (ISM), is beginning the New Year with a lot to celebrate. The airport reported record fuel sales of more than 2.3 million gallons of fuel sold in 2006. This is an increase of 9% compared to last year’s fuel sales of 2.1 million.
A new record for corporate jet traffic was also set for ISM with 4,421 aircraft choosing to utilize the airport. This is a 21% increase over last year’s jet traffic of 3,514 aircraft. Aircraft operations for 2006 were up a little more than two percent for a total of 153,992.
“The increase in fuel sales and operations is attributed to the continued increase in convention and business visitors coming to southwest Orlando and Osceola County,” Terry Lloyd, director of aviation said. “We have also been able to attract a larger share of the market due to the airfield infrastructure and our fixed base operators’ low rates.”
The airport expects the fuel and operations figures to continue to increase with the recent publishing of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedure by the Federal Aviation Administration. The precision approach procedure is effective January 18, 2007. The ILS is an instrument approach system, which provides precise electronic guidance to an aircraft approaching a runway. It is especially beneficial in situations with poor visibility and low clouds. The ILS will allow the airport to better fulfill its FAA assigned role of “relieving” smaller business and corporate aircraft from the traffic mix at Orlando International Airport, as well as support law enforcement and medical evacuation flight operations.
