Federal Aviation Administration to Publish Precision
Instrument Approach at Kissimmee Gateway Airport

Kissimmee, FL – November 7, 2006 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) completed the final flight check for the long-awaited Instrument Landing System (ILS) in September at Kissimmee Gateway Airport.

Certification of the ILS allows for the publication of a Precision Approach procedure on Jan. 18, 2007 for use by pilots in inclement weather. The ILS is an instrument approach system, which provides precise electronic guidance to an approaching a runway. It is especially beneficial in situations with poor visibility and low clouds. The ILS will allow the airport to better fulfill its FAA assigned role of “relieving” smaller business and corporate aircraft from the traffic mix at Orlando International Airport, as well as support law enforcement and medical evacuation flight operations.

“We are very excited about the ILS being commissioned by the FAA,” said Terry Lloyd, airport director. “It indicates the importance of the airport to the local and national airspace system and our commitment to providing a safe environment for all pilots.”
